General Tips Before Starting
1. Keep dumplings frozen. You do not need to thaw or defrost the dumplings. The instructions below are for cooking directly from frozen.
2. For steamed dumplings, we recommend placing a wax paper or light oil underneath to prevent sticking.
3. Cooking times will vary depending on your specific kitchen appliances. Always monitor your food closely and use a cooking thermometer to check internal temperatures reach at least 165 degrees F.
Kitchen Items Needed
- Stovetop burner (or home rice cooker)
- Wok or cooking pot at least 8-10 inches high with lid.
- Small cooking rack to keep food above the water while cooking.
- Bamboo steamer or ceramic plate (some items come in a black plastic bowl or yellow tray and can be steamed directly in these containers after removing the lid).
Cooking Procedure and Times
Step 1: Place cooking pot on stove and fill with about 1 inch of water. Place the cooking rack into water before heating.
Step 2: Cover pot with lid. Turn stove on high and bring water to a boil.
Step 3: To prepare the food for steaming, place dumplings on a ceramic plate, leaving space between each piece. To minimize the dumpling from sticking to the plate, we recommend lining with a wax paper or light oil. The wax paper that was packaged with your dimsum can also be used for steaming.
Some of our dishes come in a black plastic bowl or yellow tray. These containers are safe for steaming after removing the lid.
Step 4: Once water is boiling, remove the lid from the pot (be aware of the hot steam) and carefully place the food container on the rack. Ensure that the dumplings are not directly immersed in the water.
